Background in Design, Desktop Publishing, or related field

Responsibilities:
Format documents using QuarkXpress-J, FrameMaker, and other publishing 
software
Create text illustrations using Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and other 
illustration software, and take captures of project software
Import illustrations into documents
Input edits and make formatting changes as necessary 
Print and proof drafts of manuals
Create other art (sample art, divider pages) as needed
Proof art (high resolution output, color keys, laminate proofs, press 
proofs) as needed
Proof film and bluelines, and presscheck manuals
Maintain and archive document and illustration files according to Tech 
Pubs procedures
Work closely with Production Coordinator and Production Manager to 
conform to page design and format standards, and to maintain a high level 
of excellence
Work closely with project team (writers, engineers, and project managers) 
to maintain awareness of schedule and software updates, and ensure 
accuracy of drafts
Learn new software and platforms as necessary
Alpha and beta test software for engineering staff, and submit bug reports
Develop high level of expertise in project software
Assist in developing and testing production procedures, especially using 
Kanji software

Software Linguist

Software linguist with specialization in Japanese.  We are seeking 
linguists with strong language and editorial skills to participate in the 
development of electronic proofreading, information retrieval, and 
reference products.  Successful candidates must have a solid 
understanding of the linguistic features of the Japanese language.  We 
require DOS literacy, an extremely high level of accuracy,  an eye for 
detail, and a thorough knowledge of the grammar, writing conventions, and 
current business vocabulary of the language.  Successful candidates are 
expected to demonstrate a wide range of expertise, and the ability not 
only to perform demanding and complex linguistic and editorial tasks, but 
to manage the activities of freelance personnel engaged on selected 
assignments.  

1) Software Linguist.  Responsibilities include: The creation, 
maintenance, updating and review of linguistic software databases and 
algorithms for electronic language products.  Japanese lexicographical 
work.  Product testing, and the analysis of test results.  Competitive 
product analysis.  Corpora analysis.  The successful candidate must have 
a masters degree or equivalent in language, linguistics, or a related 
discipline and a minimum of three years experience in computational 
linguistics,  language software development, or natural language 
processing.  Native fluency in Japanese required.

2)  Software Linguist, specialization in ESL.  Responsibilities include:  
The creation, maintenance, updating and review of lexical software 
databases and linguistic rules for electronic language products.  Product 
testing, and the analysis of test results.  Competitive product 
analysis.  Corpora acquisition and analysis. The successful candidate 
must have a masters degree or equivalent in language, linguistics or a 
related discipline-formal ESL training preferred.  We require a minimum 
of three years experience in ESL teaching or research, e.g., direct 
experience with Japanese learners, second-language acquisition research, 
error analysis, etc.  Fluency in Japanese, and completely idiomatic 
English, are required.
