***Log Window ***

- Why do I need to open my log every time I run XMLog?

If you want to open a certain log file every time XMLog starts select the
"Options/Log Options" menu item and enter the log file name in the "Default
  Log File" field.

- I've opened demo.log, why aren't there any entries?

The log window only shows the 'currently selected' entries. Since you
haven't done a search yet, no entries have been selected. To select all
log entries choose the 'Select' button and then choose the 'Search' button
without filling in any fields. Check the 'Searching the Log' section in
the help file for more info.

- Is there an easier way to set times or dates rather than creating default
  field settings?

When adding or editing a log entry you can double-click on the Time, Date,
QSL Sent or QSL Received fields. This will set that field to the current
  date or time.

- How do I enter a date for year 2000 and beyond?

A 2 digit year less than 20 is assumed to be in the next century, 20 or
greater is assumed to be in the 1900's. For example:

     1/1/5  -> 01/01/2005
     1/1/98 -> 01/01/1998

- I've used "Display/Short" to display entries from my log. How can I make
an entry from this list be the current entry in the log window?

After using "Display/Short, Medium or Long" you can double-click on a line
in the list. This will move the main log window to that entry.

You can also use this technique after using "Display All Entries for Call"
  and for "Critical QSO Summaries".

- How can I search the log for fields that contain words, call fragments,
  etc.

When searching the log you can use "wildcards" to make partial matches
with data in fields. For example =w1* in the call field will match any
call starting with W1. Check the "Searching the Log" section of the help
file for more wildcard examples. This section also shows how to select
entries based on a range of dates or times.

- How can I change the prefix/country if the country "guesser" guesses
  incorrectly.

When adding or editing a log entry, double-clicking on the Prefix or
Country fields will allow you to select the country from the country list.
You can also display this list by using the "Edit/Select Country from List"
  menu item.

- Isn't there an easier way to get into edit mode than having to click on the
  Modify button?

If you want to edit log entries by just clicking on a field rather than
choosing the "Modify" button, select "Options/Log Options" and set "Modify
  Button" off.

***Packet Window ***

- I've installed my callbook CD and set it up using "Options/Callbook Setup",
how do I look up someone?

You can look up calls from the log or packet window by using "DX/Callbook
Lookup" or you can double-click on calls displayed in the packet window.

- How do I enable PacketCluster highlighting?

PacketCluster users can enable screen highlighting by using the
"Options/Packet Options" and setting "Highlight" to "On". The next
time you sign on the PacketCluster enter the command "Set/ANSI".
  To disable highlighting use "Set/NoANSI".

- In the packet window the Home and End keys scroll the output. How do I move
the cursor to the start or end of the line being typed?

When typing a line in split-screen mode use control-left-arrow and
control-right-arrow to move to the start or end of the line.
Use control-x to erase the line.

- How do I put my TNC in command mode? Typing ESC doesn't seem to work.

Use the F2 key to send the escape character that puts your TNC in command
mode. To change this character use the "Options/Packet Options" menu item
and set the TNC escape value.

- I was out of the shack for a while, how can I tell which PacketCluster spots
  gave an alert?

PacketCluster spots that result in alerts are flagged with a "-+-". To find
these spots type Control-F and search for -+- (keep typing F3 to search back
  for more flagged spots).

- Are there any other packet window shortcuts?

If you have displayed a listing of mailbox items from a bulletin board or
on a PacketCluster node, you can right-click on one of these lines to
automatically create a "read" command for that item.

Check the "Help/Display Shortcut Guide" menu item for more shortcuts.

- I used to be able to set my rig frequency/mode but now only the mode gets
  set, what happened?

XMLog sets VFO A, do you have VFO B selected?

*** Miscellaneous ***

- I've set up my CW port but I can't send my defined messages. It works OK
  using CT, what's wrong?

The CW features are linked to the packet window. The packet window must be
the current window before any CW messages can be sent.

- The XMLog zip file is too big to fit on one floppy. How can I put XMLog on
  diskettes for a friend?

XMLog has a batch file (floppies.bat) that can create a set of install disks.
  Here's how:

  1) Create a temporary directory
  2) Copy the XMLog zip file to that directory
  3) Unzip the zip file
  4) Have two blank floppies ready
  5) Type floppies (i.e. run floppies.bat)

To install XMLog from these diskettes insert the first diskette and
  run a:\setup

- How do I uninstall XMLog?

XMLog doesn't have an automatic uninstall, but since all files are contained
in the install directory just delete this directory (usually c:\xmlog).
Also delete the XMLog entry for the Windows start button which is saved as:
  C:\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\XMLog.
