WinPack SELECT.TXT and AUTOTIME.TXT Editor
------------------------------------------

Introduction
------------
SELECT.TXT and AUTOTIME.TXT have a very profound effect on the way
that WinPack works:-

SELECT.TXT tells WinPack what bulletins you want to automatically tag
for downloading. If you don't put sensible entries in SELECT.TXT then
your WinPack system may download an awful lot of bulletins that you
won't want to read, it can also result in you using rather more "air
time" than some of your packet neighbours would like!

AUTOTIME.TXT tells WinPack at what times you want to make automatic
connects to your local BBS. By timing your automatic connects to quiet
times, you can make much better use of the packet channels.

Normally you have to edit these two files using a text editor, SELEDIT
provides you with an easier way of doing it. Hopefully this will
result in more people making the effort to set up the files correctly.

Installation
------------
(If you haven't got WinPack and you are just trying SELEDIT out of
curiosity, don't bother! You won't even be able to run it.)

Put SELEDIT.EXE and SELEDIT.HLP in YOUR MAIN WINPACK DIRECTORY. That's
the directory which contains PACKET.EXE.

Add SELEDIT.EXE to your WinPack program group. In Win 3.x you do that
by highlighting the WinPack group in Program manager and using "File",
"New", "Program Item" and then browsing your way to SELEDIT.EXE. In
Win95 it rather depends on how you run WinPack - if you run it
directly from the WINPACK folder then you can do the same for SELEDIT,
if you run it from a Shortcut, then you can create a new Shortcut for
SELEDIT.EXE.

It is also a good idea to add SELEDIT.HLP to your WinPack group, so
you can read it. If you don't do that, PLEASE make an effort to read
the whole of the help once by "running" SELEDIT.HLP. There isn't
much in it, but you just might spot that vital bit of information
which will explain the point you don't understand...

In Use
------
Since any changes you make using SELEDIT won't take effect until you
have restarted WinPack, it is a good idea to close WinPack before you
run SELEDIT, but that is not essential.

When you run the program, the contents of SELECT.TXT and AUTOTIME.TXT
will be displayed in an easily edited format. You can then press <F1>
to get context-sensitive help on what you should do.
